| No | 20 | Commuters need flexible time schedules |
I understand the arguments and the alleged need for a transit system. I understand that it is believed that mass transit would be better for pop. density and traffic, etc. I reject however that the idea of "progress" and growth is an inevitable force. I would much prefer that existing urban areas be focused on using new urbanism models and that legislation is pursued that will challenge the laws preventing places from having the ability to turn down development of any kind. Mass transit rail lines will radically transform huge areas into yet more unnecessary commerce and residential areas. Leave southern Chester alone!! |
Answer this question: Why would I waste my time driving to and from multiple train stations for a train when I can get there quicker using my car on Route 1? If you seek bankruptcy, check to see if the federal government is still providing bailouts when you are ready. |
I live in Cecil County Md but feel this would relieve vehicle traffic to Baltimore and even DC I am retired so I wouldn't use it much |
I am personally concerned about the crime and how the train system might increase drugs into our area. We do not have a police station of our own and it worries me that if crime were to occur it would take hours for police to react. |
| Yes | 3 | match work schedules of populace |
we are rapidly getting to the place where there are more cars than physical road space to accomodate. widening the roads is only a short term solution which is not efficient. Mass transit has to come to this area. I have lived in Europe and it is so easy to get around without a car there here it is impossible. |
Start somewhere. The whole line is unlikely to be revived at once but if a section connecting to Phila (via Wawa?) can be revived and shown to be successful, the rest will come in time. |
Regional Comp Plan and zoning have to be in place and tightened up so we don't create a DC situation that happened post Metro into the countryside |
There are numerous Oxford Area School District teachers who live outside of Oxford. I believe many of them would try a regional rain system to Oxford if it were to be implemented. |
I often drive to Parkesburg to catch the train into Philadelphia to take summer college classes, go to the museum, attend cultural events, and know others who use it to go to ball games. |
I think that having commuter mass transit system will make it possible for people to travel out of the area for employment and also to attend colleges/universities in or around the Philadelphia area and be able to commute. I think that residents would even take the train to go into the city for shopping, going to shows and eating at resturants if they didn't have to drive and find parking in the city. |
I do have concerns as to how a commuter train will effect the housing developments that are near the tracks. |
Service linking to Amtrak, SEPTA, and MARC lines would give Southern Chester County residents many more options would be best |
Hopefully the money will be found to make this a reality to get us to Philadelphia. |
I had considered a position in Philadelphia but wanted to commute using rail service; unfortunately, the closest option wasn't at the best time of day... |
Many people in Southern Chester County work between BALT and PHL. It is only 1+ hours each way. Cities would benefit from Mass Transit. |
While it is a great idea, implemntation will be very difficult |
need to be able to get to Philadelphia and back before and after work/school |
It would be great to be able to get to Philadelphia, Newark, Baltimore with this. |
make the stations fun, clean and safe so that this becomes a tourist destination as well as for commuters. A private waiting lounge could also be very inviting for business people. |
have an attraction. Cape May rails had a stop at the zoo. This was nice to take the kids on and make a day of riding the train and an attraction/restaurants |
Must be economically justifiable. |
need to get people to their jobs |
This will increase job opportunity for residents who would enjoy greater flexibility in job search. |
Perhaps the existing SCCOOT bus routes could be expanded also. They could also try expanding Saturday service. |
O)n time arrival and departures |
This would decrease congestion in the area and help the environment |
With the implementation of updated comprehensive planning, I support commuter rail service to get citizens from A to B, but not as a mechanism to induce more sprawling development. |
Consider as another interim step for the Oxford area providing trolley service for special events between Lincoln University and Nottingham. The RR tracks link these three communities, and walking distances between the tracks and most businesses/homes along the route are short. Oxford is having great success with its First Friday event. Walking traffic in Oxford is huge (by our standards) on these evenings. We would like to include Lincoln and Nottingham, and trolley service could provide a critical link for such a special event. Use of such special service could demonstrate interest in rail service. |
Cannot happen soon enough. |
Let no one say "This can't be done" Defeatism is the end to all potentally successful ventures. The revitialization of the Freight Traffic and Commuter Traffic on the Octoraro Line, the Brandywine Valley Line and the Newark / Wilimngton Line, in todays world is a REQUIREMENT not a nice alternative. With the existing center line of the Octoraro Line being the center of the Economic Development Core Corridor for now and in the distant future, the virtual existance of this region depends on the success of the effort ! |
Fund Raisers to help defer costs, such as a beef and beer, used book sale, community fair, b-fast w/ Santa. |
there is increasing traffic congestion (especially in the longwood area) every year. i grew up in oxford and my commute to and from philadelphia has gotten longer each year, not to mention the fact that mass transit is a great alternative to get more cars off the road and cut down on polution. buses would also be helpful for the senior citizens to get to and from appointments. i know my grandmother would utilize public transportation. it would also give the working youth another means of transportation and open more opportunities for employment. |
The sooner the better, traffic is not going to get lighter in the foreseeable future. |
Just get it done. |
It's a great fundamental idea with a future. It's in my opinion a necessity for positive growth in our economic status and holds potential for a quick establishment of that growth. |
I know many people who work in Philadelphia and would prefer to take commmuter transportation. |
hurry |
We need something to go from Wilmington to Chester County. Over 15000 cross the line daily and 202 is a disaster with all the lights. Give me back the Wilmington and Northern and let me transfer in chadds ford to westchester to join with the proposed green line to Great Valley |
Sounds like a good idea if it can support itself.. If it can't then it is not so important to the people. |
A steam service in a regular basis should provide a large amount of tourism to the area. |
I am glad to see that you have set as a goal restoration of the Octoraro commuter line. It would be nice to see as well expansion of public transit to West Chester via bus. |
Without it, we have NO publc transportation what so ever. In this area, you walk, drive or you don't go anywhere.
